Tomorrow is Halloween. Gee , where did the time go? I can't believe that I haven't written since September 19. But then I have been so very busy with my art, swaps, parties, and life in general. Much going on and little time to sit and reflect; let alone compose a new posting. And still, I'm running about placing those finishing touches on house and home. I've also noticed, since the heavy storm that blew through here the other day, that the gutters are in need of a good cleaning. A job that I always dread but must see to. Temperatures are already dropping fast and before long we should be having our first snow of the season. So besides carving a few pumpkins and bagging the treats; I must brave the frigid winds, high upon my teetering ladder, and clean out those gutters. Yuck! Every year I tell myself "no more". No more gutters. I want to have french drains installed completely around the house, and remove those ugly, evil gutters. But then, that costs money; something that I have little of. Not enough time. Not enough money. I guess you might say I've been spreading (myself and) my wealth around. I've been spreading what tiny bit of wealth I had all around this great nation and have little to show for it. And now, if Obama is elected, I'll have even less. I just hope I'll be able to pay my heating bill this winter... we have oil heat. :-(
Anyway, back to the french drains.....
French drains are buried under ground, redirecting water away from house or what have you. When placed at wall side with a heavy layer of gravel on top, one need never have gutters. That which falls from the roof, lands on the gravel, travels to the drains and is diverted away from the foundation. I have been wanting this for as long as we have owned this home. But there always seams to be something else that takes precedence. Maybe one day.... In the mean time, I best get back to work and then tackle those gutters.
Well, take care and have a beautiful day.
