So as I flip through the pages of Merriam Webster's Dictionary, my eyes comes to rest on the word.....
mac·u·la·tion \ma-kyə-ˈlā-shən\ noun
1. archaic: the state of being spotted
2. a: a blemish in the form of a discrete spot <acne scars and maculations>
First known use: 15th century
Notice the maculation of the petals of this lily. Do they not draw your eye to the center, to the stamen of the flower?
