Betty Crocker has come out with a new bake-it-at-home treat, Fun da-Middles. It's a cupcake with a creamy filling inside. Each box comes with a cake mix and filling. You mix up the cake mix (with the usual water, eggs and oil), line a 12 cup tin with cupcake liners and evenly divide half of the cake mix amongst the 12 cups. You then clip the filling pouch and squeeze equal amounts of the filling into the center of each cup and top with remaining cake batter. Then bake, cool and eat. Sounds simple...sounds yummy. They come in 3 different flavors; chocolate cake with vanilla filling, white cake with vanilla filling and white cake with chocolate filling.
Next time I'm at the grocer's, I will pick up a box, and it will most likely be the chocolate cake with vanilla filling. I suppose if you have a real sweet tooth, you could go ahead and ice these cakes as well.
If you are interested in trying them, you can print out a $1.00 coupon Here:
The Breakers, Newport, Rhode Island
A Newport treasure. A National Historic Landmark. The Breakers is the grandest of the Newport "cottages". It was once the summer home of Cornelius Vanderbilt II (the grandson of Cornelius Vanderbilt, the great shipping magnet of the 1800's) and his family. The Breakers sits upon 13 acres of beautifully manicured and gardened lawn, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
In 1972, the Preservation Society of Newport County purchased the entire estate from Cornelius Vanderbilt's heirs. It is open to the public 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (4:00 pm winter months) daily, with special evening hours and events during the holiday season.
For more information on times, special events and the history of the house itself, please visit The Preservation Society of Newport County's website Here
