Wednesday Words

 

 

Dictionary 

I have decided to make Wednesday a regularly posted word day; titling it Wednesday Words.

So as I flip through the pages of Merriam Webster's Dictionary, my eye comes to rest on the word.....

 

Ecchymosis

ec·chy·mo·sis \ noun, plural  -mo·sēz \ from [Greek ekchymōsis, from ekchymousthai to extravasate blood, from ex- + chymos juice -- more at CHYME] (1541) : the escape of blood into the tissues from ruptured blood vessels -- ec·chy·mot·ic \ -'mä·tik \ adj.

My doctor loves to throw around big medical terms.  Just the other day he told me my ecchymosis is healing well.  What he meant was my big bruise is fading nicely.
