The Breakers, Newport, Rhode Island
A Newport treasure. A National Historic Landmark. The Breakers is the grandest of the Newport "cottages". It was once the summer home of Cornelius Vanderbilt II (the grandson of Cornelius Vanderbilt, the great shipping magnet of the 1800's) and his family. The Breakers sits upon 13 acres of beautifully manicured and gardened lawn, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
In 1972, the Preservation Society of Newport County purchased the entire estate from Cornelius Vanderbilt's heirs. It is open to the public 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (4:00 pm winter months) daily, with special evening hours and events during the holiday season.
For more information on times, special events and the history of the house itself, please visit The Preservation Society of Newport County's website Here
Oh so tempting....
This is a beautiful vintage Trifari starfish necklace and matching bracelet with blue moonstone cabochons. If this set wasn't already sold, I would be oh so tempted to buy it. This fabulous set was one of the many lovely temptations offered for sale Here by Anna Marcel on Trocadero (dot) com. But be warned....you may just find something too tempting to pass up.
Thank you for stopping by
